Yogi Adityanath Works In Few Years

Solution of Unemployment

While announcing its manifesto for the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the BJP had promised to provide 70 lakh jobs. According to Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) data, unemployment almost doubled in the state last year — growing to 9.95 per cent in 2019 from 5.91 per cent in 2018.

According to UP-based economist A.P. Tiwari, “During the last 3 years, the government made attempts to recruit youths in different departments but many examinations got cancelled and results of several exams are pending. It is a truth that youth aspirants cannot be given job fully in government sectors. In the present scenario, emphasis should be on creating employment in those segments which are labour intensive.”

On  Cow  Protection

CM Yogi Adityanath is known to be extra active on the issue of cow protection. But opposition parties allege that the farmers’ issues due to stray cattle over the last three years are unprecedented in scale.

Focus on spiritual tourism and infrastructure

The one area where the Yogi Adityanath government did perform well was on spiritual tourism. The government claimed success in organising the Prayagraj Kumbh in 2019 as a “grand event”. But the government is also looking to push infrastructure projects in other regions.  The government wants to develop these areas through its Bundelkhand-Purvanchal Expressway project. Sources within the government said the expressway will be a 354-km long highway connecting Lucknow and Ghazipur.

Apart from this, this year’s budget proposed to build a 1050-km Ganga Expressway from Meerut to Prayagraj, as the largest expressway in India.

What the government believes

Speaking with ThePrint, UP cabinet minister and government spokesperson Siddharth Nath Singh said Uttar Pradesh’s name and fame has increased manifold throughout the country under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath. He claimed that there has been considerable boost in UP’s economy. We have been able to greatly improve the old image of UP. Indeed, after just three years in office our government has done more work than previous governments,” he added.

What political experts say

UP is such a big state that no dramatic overnight change can be ushered in here. But the kind of majority that this government got in 2017, reflects people’s trust (in BJP). Though the last three years have not witnessed results in comparison to this, but we will have to wait for the last two years,” said Kaviraj, a political science professor at Lucknow University.

Sharad Pradhan said that when Adityanath was installed as CM, no one had any doubt about his “honest image”, but there were questions over his “communal style of politics”
